After a successful year in 2010 the National Geographic All Roads Photography is gearing up again to support the underrepresented minority-culture photographers who are telling their cultural perspective of their communities in Documentary photography. They will be supported by cash grants, inkind sponsorship of photographic gear, and National Geographic will build a complete website for them, and be apart of a process committed to education around working in the global Documentary and Photojournalism field in 2011.

View the winners and their winning photo-essay from 2010 and see what the entire All Roads Film Project is doing on the National Geographic website.

I am a nominator for the All Roads Photography programme. While I have people in mind, I felt it would be helpful to cast the net wide and give you and opportunity to bring to my attention any photographers that fit the profile of what the programme is looking for, please email me. Please forward me the contact details of the photographer you want to draw to my attention and ideally a link to an online portfolio. I would need to receive this information by Friday February 18, 2011.

GUIDELINES

The guidelines for nomination are as follows:

Each nominee must fit within the All Roads Photography mission and a category named below. The mission is: “recognizing and supporting talented international storytellers whose still photography documents their changing cultures and communities.” National Geographic will award one photographer from each category. And the categories are:

1) Emerging Photographer – one who shows superb talent, yet needs additional support and recognition to continue his or her career.
2) Mid-career Photographer – one who is known in his or her region/country, yet needs additional support and recognition to garner more attention in the industry.
3) Pioneer Photographer – one who is recognized in the photographic community of his or her region/country, respected for being a pioneer, yet unrecognized internationally. The National Geographic All Roads Photography Award will support the Pioneer Photographer’s efforts to expand globally and finish a project in his or her archive.

This grant is very much in line with our passion at Africa Media Online of Africans telling Africa’s story. We are excited to see African photographers selected for this grant. Remember to send me details by Friday February 18, 2011.
